General Requirements Vs Specific Requirements

During the process of applying for Master’s studies in Sweden, you’ll come across what the University Admissions calls General Requirements and Specific Requirements.

You’ve probably seen this when you visited the University Admissions website and you might have been confused about what they meant by those terms.

What are the general requirements and where can I find them?

What are the specific requirements and where can I find them?

If you’re going to be applying when the applications open in October, you should be familiar with what these terms are.

Before I continue, let me share some good news with you.

At a press conference on May 29, The Swedish Prime Minister announced that universities across Sweden will resume for on-campus studies as from June 15.

Due to COVID-19, Swedish universities had moved academic studies online, but as from June 15, they will resume academic studies on campus.

All right. So, let’s move on to the subject of this article.

General Requirements Vs Specific Requirements

1. General Requirements
These are the requirements for applications for Master’s studies in Sweden, that are general for any Master’s programme.

In other words, no matter the Master’s programme you’re applying for, you must fulfill these requirements. They are like the minimum admission criteria that every applicant must provide.

And where can you find them?

On the University Admissions website here.

They include your degree certificates, transcripts and international passport.

If you’re applying for Master’s studies in Sweden, you must have these documents submitted.

2. Specific Requirements
These are the requirements for applications for Master’s studies in Sweden, that are specific/unique for each Master’s programme.

Note the underlined word. Specific or unique for each Master’s programme. In other words, one Master’s programme’s specific requirement can be different from another Master programme’s.

They include CVs, motivation letters, letters of intent, statements of purpose, reference/recommendation letters, etc.

Some Master’s programme’s demand for all these documents, some others do not demand for all.

While there are some other Master’s programmes that do no ask for any specific requirement.

So, where do you find specific requirements for any Master’s programme in Sweden?

Since one Master’s programme’s specific requirement can be different from another Master’s programme’s, where do you find information on what specific requirements demanded for any Master’s programme?

That’ll be…each university’s website!

Every Master’s programme in Sweden has a webpage dedicated to it on the website of the university offering that programme.

So, you need to visit the website of each university to find out what specific requirements are needed for each Master’s programme.

You’ll find a list of the websites of every university in Sweden here.

I hope this has been helpful.
