How To Win A Full Master's Scholarship In Sweden Even If You Graduated With Second Class Lower!

On Saturday May 25, 2019, the Swedish government agency that fully sponsored my Master's studies in Sweden, the Swedish Institute, organised a diploma ceremony for all scholarship recipients to mark the end of our scholarship period.

The ceremony was organised days before the official conferment of Master degree awards at my university, Linköping University, which marked the end of my Master's studies in Sweden that started in August, 2017, two years ago.

The ceremony held in the same location, same hall, where the prestigious Nobel Prizes are handed out every year. It was in this same building that the famous Nigerian playwright, Professor Wole Soyinka, was awarded his Nobel Prize in Literature in 1986.

In Sweden, a certificate is called a diploma

But, how did I find myself in Sweden, of all places?

I'm Mobolaji Folorunso, a recipient of the Swedish Institute Study Scholarship who finished Master's studies in Industrial Engineering and Management last year at Linköping University, Sweden.

Just like any other young person in Africa, the popular destinations for Master's studies are usually the US, UK and Canada.

Of course, I looked at all those places but all of them combined were not offering anything close to what Sweden was offering through the Swedish Institute Scholarship.

Apart from the fact that the scholarship covers full tuition fees and monthly allowances, studying in Sweden also had the following attractive attributes:

  • Most Master's scholarships usually require a first class undergraduate degree. But the Swedish Institute Scholarship was focused on work and leadership experiences. There was no requirement for a particular class of degree. Well, I finished with a 2:1 in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Lagos, and I still won the scholarship.
  • Most of those countries also required that you leave their country after your scholarship period, but Sweden has no requirement as such. You can remain in Sweden to work or start a business after your studies.

    And to top it all...
  • Unlike those other countries, candidates from Nigeria and Ghana are NOT required to write IELTS or TOEFL to apply for Master's in Sweden.

I mean, it was a sweet offer.

And offer that I could not refuse.

An offer that Sweden will be making AGAIN IN 2020.

The next Autumn Master's application starts in October, 2020.

Before I applied for the scholarship, I had started preparing for it 1 ONE year ahead.

Yes! One whole year of preparation before winning the scholarship!

In that ONE year, I had access to lots of information that helped me prepare a strong application for the scholarship.

And throughout 2020, I want to replicate that for others and teach prospective applicants how to win this same scholarship.

What Past Students of This EMAIL COURSE Are Saying:

You've done more than enough for me. I never heard of the scholarship until I visited your Facebook page and you guided me through the application process. You know,  yesterday I was going through my mails with you since November 2018, and I was like, Thank God for sending this young man my way.

Chike, from Nigeria

(Now at University of Gothenburg, Sweden)

I consistently received your emails last year and I learnt a lot from them. Even the decision to apply for the scholarship was influenced by you to a large extent. You answered my questions on email and I believe following the advise that you offered me from the beginning including but not limited to studying the websites carefully was extremely helpful. This was my first time to apply for the scholarship and I got awarded! Your mentorship has been amazing, well-structured and systematic.

Susan, from Kenya

(Now at Blekinge Institute of Technology, Sweden)

I dedicate this scholarship to God. In Oct 2018, I learnt about the scholarship from Facebook. I faithfully studied the 2 most important websites and this did wonders to my application being successful. Mobolaji's emails were quite helpful and the live video demos. I am eternally grateful to him for all the support especially on pointing out common mistakes and giving valuable tips! Thank God for you!

Elizabeth, from Kenya

(Now at Luleå University, Sweden)
